[UKG-001] – Common misconceptions of particles 은/는 and 이/가

There are many misconceptions surrounding Korean particles 은/는 and 이/가. They are misunderstood by Korean learners and Korean teachers alike. In order to understand these particles properly, we first need to clear up any misconceptions you might have. I hope this video will prevent fallacies from spreading and shine light on these particles.



The most common misconceptions:
01 – If a noun is a topic, then it cannot be a subject (00:24)
02 – 은/는 is a subject particle (01:53)
03 – 은/는 is a topic particle (03:49)
04 – 이/가 is a subject particle (04:32)
05 – First use 이/가 then use 은/는 (06:39)
06 – 은/는 and 이/가 are akin to the/an (07:51)
07 – 은/는 gives emphasis to what it attaches to (09:26)
08 – 이/가 always marks the grammatical subject of the sentence (10:47)
09 – Subjects of embedded clauses are always marked with 이/가 (11:39)
10 – If the noun can be removed, then use 은/는 (13:28)
